Physical Infrastructure

The typical infrastructure requirements for an international school catering to about 1,200 students are as follows:

  • Site area: 50 acres
  • Building Gross Floor Area: 50,000 square metres

The buildings/facilities would usually comprise the following:  

  • Administration office
  • Early Years Centre
  • Primary block
  • Secondary block
  • Science block
  • Art block
  • Performing Arts Centre
  • Library
  • Sports Hall/Gymnasium/Swimming Pool
  • Dining Hall
  • Boarding House (separate blocks for Girls and Boys)
  • Sports fields including tennis courts
  • Teachers’ accommodation

Timeframe  

The normal cycle of development for each school includes:

Phase One – Formalisation

Moving from initial discussions to a Memorandum of Understanding and where appropriate forming a legally constituted joint venture

Phase Two – Feasibility

Feasibility study – the collection of the data needed to decide on the location of the school and then drawing up a business plan.

Phase Three – Implementation

- Design of the school.
- Gaining the necessary licenses.
- Construction of the school.  
- Appointment of a Headmaster, Heads of Secondary and Primary   and a Registrar.
- Launch and promotion of the school. 
- Recruitment and testing of prospective students.
- Recruitment of teachers.
- Curriculum development.

Phase Four – Commencement

- New staff induction.
- Opening of the school.
- Establishment of the school’s culture

Phase Five – Development

- Ongoing self-review related to accreditation
- Development of teacher professional development   opportunities.
- Development of a strategic plan.
- Ongoing capital works developments and minor works upgrades.
